Quest to the Peak - The Longest Travelator in the World

One day, as we were wandering around the city, we happened to chance upon some outdoor travelators which we jumped on to see where it lead to. We joked that we would keep getting onto the next connecting travelator as long as there was one. Well, that game lasted for a while as the series of travelators and elevated walkways just kept taking us up north! On the way up, we took in a bird's eye view of some of the trendiest neighbourhoods for eating and drinking (SOHO) in Hong Kong. The relaxing ride up also allowed us to take a peek at it's most intimate alleys and residental flats pressed against the clift. It was not until a few days afterwards that we realised we've discovered the longest covered travelator in the world - the half a mile long Central to Mid-levels Escalator!

Some 30 minutes later we finally reached the top of the escalator! We were surprised to see that residents lived up there and that the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens was nearby. Although the zoo is very small and animal exhibits limited, it was interesting to see how a zoo sits within this space on the cliff.

When the travelators ran out and after our brief visit to the zoo, we discovered that we could still continue our journey to the top by sitting on the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak itself (steepest part of the track is 27 degrees to the horizontal). It was up there that we ran into Jackie Chan, James Bond and Michelle Yeoh.

I'm Law... Andy Law...

If only they weren't made of wax! Next up, was to take a photo next to the miniature Hong Kong flats and double decker bus. It was so windy at the Peak that it was difficult to take a steady shot!

We stayed at the top till night fall, where we enjoyed the breathtaking city lights. Unfortunately, the haze in the city obscured it's full splendor! Ultimately, I had a lot of fun taking photos, battling the strong winds and looking through their public telescopes.

Hmm... and now to make our way back down.......
